Time management and remote work:

Time management is difficult in normal circumstances, however it is more difficult when you are working from home. As working remotely provides the employees with flexibility and freedom on how and when to work. When you are working remotely the interruptions in the office are replaced with distractions at home. As such taking care of the kids and your pets. In addition to that doing house chores and interacting with your relatives. However in order to manage your time while working remotely, you must set up a work space that boosts your productivity and concentration. This work space would be able to limit any distractions.

Time management is most likely to be associated with prioritization. As such making a to-do list helps you stay organized and manage your time efficiently. In addition to that, the to-do list helps you decide your priorities. Hence you save so much time as you finish the most important tasks and take them off the list. On the other side you finish the least important tasks later on when you have time. In such case you will make sure that you stay on the track to meet your priorities.

Tools to manage your time while working remotely:

1. Pareto Principle:

It was formulated by an Italian economist and sociologist named Vilfredo Federico Pareto. It states that 80 percent of the effects come from 20 percent of the causes. Being aware of such principle helps you manage your time and set your priorities straight. As such if you have a to-do list of ten items to achieve, this principle helps you focus on two items out of the ten. These two items turn out to be of worth more than the other eight. Hence instead of focusing on minor tasks that consume so much time, you would focus on the most important ones. The pareto principle helps you see the big picture and what tasks to focus on to get the best results. Once you apply this principle, you will reset your to-do list and the amount of effort needed to achieve it.

2. Promodoro Technique:

This is a time management system that helps you work with the time you have and not against it. While using this system, you divide your working day into 25-minute blocks that are separated by 5 minutes of break. These intervals of time are referred to as promodoros. Once you are done with 4 promodoros, you will take a longer break of 15-20 minutes. This system is important in the sense that it helps you keep track of your time. It helps you feel a sense of urgency, that’s instead of feeling that you have endless time left. In such case you think of the 25 minutes as a precious period of time that you want to take advantage of. Also the forced breaks after each 25 minutes helps you unwind and prevent any burn-out.

3. Eat The Frog Technique to manage your time while working remotely:

It’s a time management technique that helps you plan and prioritize the most important tasks that you need to accomplish. Hence it’s best to eat the frog early in the morning and if you have two frogs to eat then eat the biggest one first. In such case the most important and difficult tasks to achieve will be prioritized. This means if you want to apply this technique then you should focus on one important task to achieve in your day. It would be better to pick something that takes 1-4 hours. Then break that task down into smaller steps to achieve. Try to prevent any temptations to plan ahead another task, just focus on the task at hand. You should do this task first once you start work. This technique helps you make use of your best working hours.

Time management could be hard especially when you are working remotely. As there is no supervision and there is flexibility to do whatever you want. In order to make the best use of your time and boost your productivity. Hence you should pick a tool from the tools above which suits your condition most.
